Beyond Beauty: How PRP Facials Regenerate Skin at a Cellular Level
Does your daily skincare routine seem less effective lately? While topical products are essential for maintenance, they don’t always provide the deep, structural support needed to address age-related changes in skin texture and elasticity.
If you want to refresh your look without surgery or traditional injectables, RVA Regenerative Wellness is here for you. Rather than quick fixes, Jennylle Zanzi, FNP-C, offers treatments that naturally rebuild your skin from within, like platelet-rich plasma (PRP) facials.
Sometimes called a Vampire Facelift, a PRP facial uses your body’s natural healing properties to regenerate skin at a cellular level. Here’s a closer look at how it works and the results you can expect from your treatment.
The power of platelet-rich plasma (PRP)
Your blood consists of four main components: white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets, and plasma, the fluid that carries them.
While red blood cells transport oxygen and white blood cells manage your immune defense, platelets are primarily responsible for clotting the blood when an injury occurs. Platelets also contain growth factors — powerful proteins that initiate tissue healing and cell growth.
To obtain PRP, clinicians take a small blood sample and process it to isolate the platelets from the other blood cells. The result is a concentrated serum with a wide range of medical and aesthetic uses, including skin renewal, hair restoration, and relief of joint pain.
What is a PRP facial?
A PRP facial begins with microneedling. During this step, we use a device equipped with fine, sterile needles to create tiny microchannels in the top layers of skin. These superficial injuries kickstart the healing process and allow the platelet serum to penetrate more deeply.
Next, we topically apply the freshly prepared PRP to the treatment area(s). Once absorbed, the platelets release growth factors that direct nearby cells to repair and rebuild damaged tissue. They also stimulate the production of collagen and elastin — structural proteins that give tissue its strength and resilience.
PRP facials are especially effective for addressing concerns like:
- Fine lines, wrinkles, and crepiness
- Age spots and hyperpigmentation
- Enlarged or visible pores
- Scarring
- Dull, tired skin
Depending on your specific goals, your facial treatment may include targeted serums like our signature UltraMint formula or hyaluronic acid in addition to PRP.
Your recovery and results
You can return to most regular activities immediately after your PRP facial. Mild redness and swelling are normal in the first 24 to 48 hours, and may be followed by light peeling or flaking as the renewal process speeds up.
Over the next few weeks, you should start to notice a visible boost in texture and overall radiance. While results typically peak around four to six weeks after treatment, improvements in firmness may continue for several months as the newly formed collagen matures and tightens.
To achieve and maintain optimal results, Jennylle may recommend a series of three or four PRP treatments spaced several weeks apart.
